&lt;p&gt;You may succeed stopping MSDPM and shrink the volume using the Windows build-in feature but I cannot promise it&amp;#39;ll work flawlessly because it is not a tested/supported procedure with DPM. &lt;/p&gt;

I had to temporarily store almost a terabyte on a server and it obviously affected the replica volume. I removed that data and now I am stuck with a monstrous replica volume. The only thing I can see is deleting the protection group and recreating it. There are about 2.5 million images involved here (380 GB) and I dread the thought of deleting and recreating that replica.&lt;/p&gt;

This means multiple of the same type are protected using a single volume-twin are thereby counteracting the growth in number of volumes.&lt;/p&gt;
