Update Rollup 3 for DPM 2012 Service Pack 1 is now available

download5333UR3 for System Center 2012 Data Protection Manager SP1 has been released and is now available for download. This update rollup contains fixes for the following issues:

Issue 1

When you use a tape library that has many slots, the Microsoft System Center 2012 Data Protection Manager database becomes bloated over time.

Issue 2

When you try to set up library sharing when you use Data Protection Manager SP1 Update Rollup 2 (UR2), you receive the following error message:

Failed to execute RBACRolePermissionOnStoredProcScript.sql on DPMServer\Database

Issue 3

When you run a Windows PowerShell script that retrieves the protection groups, the console crashes.

Issue 4

The VMM Helper Service stops responding, and no virtual machines are backed up. A restart enables the backups to continue.

  • @Alex Ieong Not yet. I will try this if everything else fails. But first I'll wait for a solution from Microsoft. I think a rollback would also require a database restore...

  • Some SQL Agent jobs that are set to synchronization backup files is set incorrectly scheduled. When I tried to adjust the value of a scheduled sql generated error value time. Jobs runs well but does not know dpm2012 edit and schedule a new job.

    We are actively working on the issues that have been reported here. We have pulled down the update from Microsoft Update.  Given the issues seen at this point we would strongly advise against any further installation of Update Rollup 3 for DPM 2012 SP1.

    We will shortly update you on the issues and the next steps. Stay tuned.

  • Is it possible to just uninstall this update?

  • Any news on when RollUP3 is going to be fixed?

    According to the live jobs DPM is backing up without an issue but looking at the replica points the last recovery point i can go back to was the day before I installed Roll Up 3?

  • I was deleted all jobs in SQL.

    Now all works. But I'M not sure that this is what has helped.

  • Today I made a DPM Server Recovery (BMR recovery), and reinstallation of all agents. My recovery point was lost but I can not wait to dpm team. I lost a lot of time and luckily I did not need to use backup data week ago. Thank DPM team for a response. I do not have a test environment, I use it in a real environment.

  • My main DPM server downloaded and installed KB2853210. The agents did not auto update.

    But my biggest problem is the remote DPM server. It tried to install up the update three times and failed. And now I can not download the update to try a manual install.

    Now the backups to my remote site are failing. It can not contact the agent on my first server.

  • Here is what I got so far:

    Suggested workaround by now (as long as there is no other fix available):

    1. You'll need a DPM database backup from before the installation of UR3

    2. Uninstall DPM, retain disk based recovery points

    3. Install DPM

    4. Install UR1 and UR2

    5. Restore database from backup

    Even though I have a backup, I will refrain from doing an uninstall and I'll wait for a fix to (hopefully) come up...

    We are aware of the impact of the issues in Update Rollup3  and are working through to re-release Update Rollup 3. In the interim we have suggested workarounds and resolutions to minimize the impact.   • Send mail with error description and will want money for solving the problem. They wanted from me. Nice microsoft support

  • I contacted Microsoft support (no charge) and they ran an SQL and DPM PowerShell script which resolved the issue with modifying protection groups.    The remote agent install issue will apparently be resolved when UR3 is re-released.


  • Worked with Microsoft yesterday.  They are very quick with the fix.  Maybe 10 minutes on the phone.  Nothing to set back up.  They run a script to see how many lines are affected, they clean up the mess and everything is back to normal.  I was holding off to see if they'd release an update but decided that I didn't want to babysit my protection groups everyday to see if Recovery Points were being created.  Go ahead and call and get it fixed.  It's free.  Their Bug, Their Dime.
