download5333UR3 for System Center 2012 Data Protection Manager SP1 has been released and is now available for download. This update rollup contains fixes for the following issues:

Issue 1

When you use a tape library that has many slots, the Microsoft System Center 2012 Data Protection Manager database becomes bloated over time.

Issue 2

When you try to set up library sharing when you use Data Protection Manager SP1 Update Rollup 2 (UR2), you receive the following error message:

Failed to execute RBACRolePermissionOnStoredProcScript.sql on DPMServer\Database

Issue 3

When you run a Windows PowerShell script that retrieves the protection groups, the console crashes.

Issue 4

The VMM Helper Service stops responding, and no virtual machines are backed up. A restart enables the backups to continue.

  • Issue 5 - The DPM agents will all need uninstalling and re-installing after installing UR3. :(

  • Same here. Can't upgrade agents...

  • Manual agent upgrade is working fine.

    msiexec /update \\<dpm-server>\c$\Program Files\Microsoft System Center 2012\DPM\DPM\agents\RA\4.1.3415.0\amd64\1033

Refresh in DPM console shows new protection agent version as 4.1.3415.0

  • * msiexec /update \\<dpm-server>\c$\Program Files\Microsoft System Center 2012\DPM\DPM\agents\RA\4.1.3415.0\amd64\1033\DPMProtectionAgent_KB2853210.msp

  • Yep, how upgrade agents without manual operations?

  • I am experiencing the same issues.   After applying rollup 3 which completed successfully updating the agents from the console fails to run with error ID 301 'The protection agent upgrade failed because the protection agent is not installed' and making any changes to the protection groups fail with error 1004   Also there are SQL Server Agent warning ID 208 and MSDPM warning events 955 in the logs.

Has anyone else experienced the other issues mentioned?

  • @Mark Di Ciano: I experienced the same issues with protection agent updates and protection group modifications (www.normanbauer.com/.../error-in-data-protection-manager-2012-after-installation-of-update-rollup-3-for-system-center-2012-service-pack-1).

I opened a support request... Let's see what happens.

  • Thanks Norman, kind of glad I am not alone.    Please let us know how you go with the support case.

  • Update Rollup 3 for DPM 2012 Service Pack 1

today i`ve installed subj on my DPM 2012 Server. And from that moment i cannot:

    1. Modify protection group membership (add new resource to backup)

    2. Delete resource from protection group (also protection group change)

Both operations fails. Via console i receive error like this "Removing \Backup Using Child Partition Snapshot\srv_name failed: Error 1004"

It is a full error message, nothing more. In the application log at the same time i recieve the following message (event was read from the DPM server where problem exist, it`s provided here as it were registered in the app log. No other error/warning registrations):

The description for Event ID 955 from source MSDPM cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

The consistency check resulted in the following changes to SQL Server Agent schedules: Schedules added: 3 Schedules removed: 5 Schedules updated: 2.

    Problem Details:

    <ConsistencyCheck><__System><ID>26</ID><Seq>8604</Seq><TimeCreated>25.07.2013 15:17:18</TimeCreated><Source>SchedulerImpl.cs</Source><Line>719</Line><HasError>True</HasError></__System><Tags><JobSchedule /></Tags></ConsistencyCheck>

the message resource is present but the message is not found in the string/message table

  • After installing CU3, some DPM SQL agent  jobs start status failed

  • manual upgrade isnt work too

  • Unfortunately, I got the same problems with all of you. Also waiting for Microsoft support. :(

  • @Stanly

Same problem here with Update Rollup 3 - Error 1004 when either removing or adding something to a protection group - let us know if you get anywhere with MS.

  • Anybody tried to remove UR3 , at least to avoid 1004 during modifying PGs and SQL agent errors?

  • I had my first telephone call regarding this issue a few minutes ago. According to the support technician is the product group already aware of this problem and tries to find a solution.

As soon as I get some news, I will give you an update here and also on FB (www.facebook.com/normanbauercom)
