Announcement: Configuration Manager Documentation Library Update for October 2013

The Documentation Library for System Center 2012 Configuration Manager has been updated on the web and the latest content has Updated: October 1, 2013 at the top of the topic.

Mobile Device Management

How to Manage Mobile Devices by Using Configuration Manager and Windows Intune

-Updates include the following:

  • Updated prerequisites for Windows Phone 8
  • Details about enrollment for Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1
  • The Wiping Company Content from Mobile Devices section includes information about how to wipe company content on various platforms.

How to Create Configuration Items for Devices enrolled by Windows Intune and Configuration Manager

-Added a list of all compliance settings, including Android settings.

How to Create and Deploy Applications for Mobile Devices in Configuration Manager

-Added deployment scenarios for company-owned devices.

How to Configure Hardware Inventory for Mobile Devices Enrolled by Windows Intune and Configuration Manager

Site Administration

Backup and Recovery in Configuration Manager

- Starting in System Center 2012 R2 Configuration Manager, you can specify any path for the Configuration Manager installation. Prior to this, you must specify the same path that was used when the site was originally installed.

- Added support for PXE boot of IA32 UEFI computers.

Planning a Task Sequence Strategy in Configuration Manager

-Updates include the following:

  • Added a tip that the task sequence writes the command-line, including variable values, to the CreateTSMedia.log log file on the computer that runs the Configuration Manager console
  • Updated the task sequence environment size limit for task sequence variables in R2.

Planning for Boot Image Deployments in Configuration Manager

-Added a section about the default boot image and that all boot images that use the source path are considered default boot images.

-Updates include the following:

  • The Size column for boot images displays the decompressed size for the boot image and not the compressed size that is sent over the network.
  • Added a Tip that the task sequence writes the command-line, including variable values, to the CreateTSMedia.log log file on the computer that runs the Configuration Manager console

Task Sequence Steps in Configuration Manager

-Updates include the following:

  • Added a note that if you import a task sequence with the Set Dynamic Variable step with a dynamic variable value as a Secret value, you must re-enter the value when you import the task sequence.
  • Added that the Run PowerShell Script task sequence step requires that PowerShell is enabled in the boot image.
  • Added a note that PowerShell is not enabled by default on Windows Embedded operating systems.
  • Added a note to the Install Applications step that superseded content must be available when installing an application that supersedes the application.
