If you are a Configuration Manager 2007 customer, we recognize you might have concerns about the impact of recent changes to Microsoft Update. These changes were introduced by either the application of the WSUS update KB 2734608, or by back-end Microsoft Update processes.
For many Configuration Manager 2007 customers, this resulted in redownloading and redistributing a large number of updates.
To minimize further impact, we have released a hotfix that will prevent software updates displaying as invalid.
While Microsoft has temporarily halted the changes to Microsoft Update, they will continue on December 11, 2012. Even if you have already redownloaded software updates, you could be impacted by additional changes in December. We strongly suggest you install the following hotfix immediately to ensure compatibility with future changes in December.
KB 2783466: Software updates are displayed as invalid unexpectedly in the Administrator Console in System Center Configuration Manager 2007
This fix applies to all Configuration Manager 2007 primary and secondary site servers.
System Center 2012 Configuration Manager is not affected by these changes to Microsoft Update.

The KB says this applies SP2. Does that include R3?

@Dan. Yes to your question as R3 runs on top of SP2.

Terrific work guys, thanks!

We are running SCCM 2007 SP1. Does the hotfix applicable to this version?

@Cez. CM07 SP1 will have this issue but this hotfix will not install on Service Pack 1. SP1 is past the end if its full support period and we no longer supply hotfixes for it. support.microsoft.com/.../default.aspx. I strongly recommend that you upgrade to Service Pack 2, which is the currently supported service pack for CM07 and apply this hotfix.

Hi ! - What is the impact if I didn't apply this hotfix (other than the fact that I need re download the content for impacted patches and update the DPs) ?

Thanks Yvette. Appreciate much for the info. I will upgrade it to SCCM 2007 SP2 and apply the hotfix.

@Anoop. That is the only impact.

Please Release an SP3 or a update rollup for SCCM 2007.. there's so many random hotfixes.. it's really become pain. :/

Does this apply if we use only WSUS 3.0 for patching and not SCCM integrated with WSUS?

Yvette - excellent post. I was almost going to pass on the hotfix until you mentioned that MU had been temp halted and were resuming. Thank you!

*FLAME ON* I don't think Microsoft has informed customers very well thru this whole matter *FLAME OFF*

PS I second Steven's request, I do hope there is a SP3 soon.

Can the hotfix be removed after installation if required for any reason. There is no info in the hotfix deployment details specifying this.

Are you able to uninstall this hotfix once installed? Details are not available of the removal on support.microsoft.com/.../2783466.

I am not able to install this Hotfix on Secondary sites. i get the below error :-

Product: Software Update for ConfigMgr 2007 SP2 (KB2783466) -- This hotfix does not match the installed role of Configuration Manager 2007

But the version is ConfigMgr 2007 R3.

Can anyone help me on this ?

Thanks in advance
