Just a quick note to let you know that Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010 (FEP 2010), the FEP Management Pack and the FEP Best Practice Analyzer now support Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2. No software updates are required.

The good folks from the Configuration Manager product team just released a great article describing all of the documentation available for System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection and where to get it. So why is this coming from the Configuration Manager product group? Because starting with System Center 2012 Configuration Manager, Forefront Endpoint Protection (FEP) has now been integrated into Configuration Manager and is called System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection:
=====
Starting with System Center 2012 Configuration Manager, Forefront Endpoint Protection (FEP) has now been integrated into Configuration Manager and is called System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection. From your feedback, we have heard that some FEP customers who are now using System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection are having problems finding the information they need to install and configure Endpoint Protection. This blog post answers the questions we’ve been hearing about the documentation. A thank you to Diana Smith (a Microsoft Senior Support Escalation Engineer), for her help in working with us to get the right information to you.
Where is the documentation for Endpoint Protection?

Microsoft’s own Kevin McKinnerney just published a new test lab guide on FEP 2010. This Test Lab Guide (TLG) extends the Base Configuration and System Center Configuration Manager 2007 test lab to include Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010. It includes both instructions for installing Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010 Server on a ConfigMgr 2007 server and distributing the Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010 Client.
This paper contains instructions for setting up a test lab based on the Microsoft Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010 Test Lab Guide and deploying Microsoft Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010 using one server computer and one client computer. The resulting Microsoft Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010 test lab demonstrates simple Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010 functionality.

Microsoft’s very own Scott Rachui put together another great self-study guide for System Center 2012, this time focusing exclusively on Data Protection Manager and Endpoint Protection. If you’re wanting a head start in mastering these technologies then these are a great place to start.
In part 4 of this series, I turn to Data Protection Manager and I revisit Endpoint Protection. For those of you who might have seen earlier one of my earlier study guides, you will see that I have already put out a study guide for Forefront Endpoint Protection. In this post, I will focus exclusively on Endpoint Protection as it relates to System Center 2012.
As I did in Part 2 of this series, I want to start with a brief explanation of these two components of System Center 2012. I do this with the lesser-known components of the System Center suite for those who may not know what these tools do. Hopefully these brief explanations are helpful in setting the stage.
Data Protection Manager -"enables disk-based and tape-based data protection and recovery for servers such as SQL Server, Exchange Server, SharePoint, virtual servers, file servers, and support for Windows desktops and laptops. DPM can also centrally manage system state and Bare Metal Recovery (BMR)."
Endpoint Protection - "Microsoft System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection (previously known as Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010) allows you to consolidate desktop security and management in a single solution. "
