Our next monthly meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at the Lincoln Square Center in Bellevue at 6:00PM. Our July meeting falls on the eve of 4th of July so we won’t have a meeting in July but will be back on schedule in August.

Session Details
Our guest speaker on June 5th will be Sharee English of SeattlePro Enterprises, LLC. The topic of her presentation is “Designing SharePoint Intranet Sites.”

Without proper planning and design, SharePoint sites are less secure and difficult to manage. Content management and permissions can become a nightmare. So how do you plan your taxonomy to avoid the pitfalls that a lot of organizations are facing? In this session, Sharee will share her vast SharePoint consulting and training experience and show you what you need to do to properly design the taxonomy for your intranet site.

There is a lot of confusion around the usage of Team Sites, workspaces and the intranet. Which one should you use? Why? Should intranet be your portal? Should Team Sites be configured as separate Site Collections or should they be added under the intranet hierarchy? Get answers to these questions and more from Sharee.

Sharee will also discuss the intranet site design Best Practices and walk you through the overall steps of intranet site design, which will include topics such as content inventory, card sorting, grouping of data, creating major and minor categories, hierarchical structure, metadata, and more. Whether you are currently using SharePoint or plan to implement it in the near future, you don’t want to miss this presentation.

Speaker Bio
Sharee English is the Director of Information Services at SeattlePro. She is an MCT, MCSD and MCAD with over 15 years of experience in software development, training, and management. Sharee is also a published author. She enjoys writing articles on various Web development, programming and SharePoint topics. Sharee's Blog is an excellent resource for Microsoft SharePoint topics. She founded the Sacramento SharePoint User Group, which is the largest user group of its kind in California.
