Do you want to have one of the first Windows 8 Apps in the Windows Store?

Do you have a great Windows 8 App idea?

Have you started writing a Windows 8 App and want some feedback?

As you likely know Windows 8 is coming in the near future. You can download, use it, and even develop apps for it today. At this point in time the Windows Store is not open for everyone to deploy, but we are looking for the first wave of great applications which highlight the power of Metro and Windows 8, especially those developers that want to get to market first and build the awareness and brand for their applications.

In order to submit your application today you need a token which is something I can help you get.

What do you need to do to get a token? Here are the key steps:

    1. Create a great application or game and get it ready.

    2. Let me know about it by contacting me via email – chris.avis@microsoft.com

    3. I’ll help you register so you can get your application through our Application Accelerator Labs where the app will get reviewed to confirm it is done and conforms to the Metro guidelines and certification requirements.

This is a great opportunity to not only be first to market with your app, but also to get feedback from a Microsoft Services Engineer to make your app great. If you are serious about creating an application this is a chance that you probably don’t want to pass up.

In addition, our team is holding a series of events and office hours to help you – we want to make sure you have what you need to be successful. You can come learn more about how to build apps for Windows 8 or show up and build your app with one of our evangelists or others in your community available to help you if you need it. You can find more information about our events and availability at…

How Microsoft IT Uses File Classification Infrastructure to Help Secure Personally Identifiable Information….

    clip_image001

Microsoft IT Showcase is pleased to announce the publication of how Microsoft IT Uses File Classification Infrastructure to Help Secure Personally Identifiable Information, which discusses how you can use file classification to achieve compliance goals and implement FCI to ensure proper protection. Many thanks to Nir Ben Zvi and Olav Opedal for their expertise, knowledge, and dedication in developing this comprehensive video.

Microsoft IT Uses File Classification Infrastructure to Help Secure Personally Identifiable Information

Learn how Microsoft Information Technology (IT) used File Classification Infrastructure (FCI) to create a solution to automatically classify, manage, and protect sensitive data, including personally identifiable information and financial information. Using the new FCI-based solution, Microsoft IT can obtain file-level details about content sensitivity while reducing misclassification of personally identifiable information from 30% to 3%. The new solution enables risk mitigation for sensitive data by using automatically applied controls. Ultimately, this solution helped Microsoft IT achieve industry best practices for regulatory compliance.

IT Camp: Create an optimized virtualized environment with Windows Server for today and tomorrow

LIMITED SEATING REMAINING – Register today to guarantee your spot!!

We had great success with the IT Camps we started in March! Thank you all for the support of the events. We have a new series of IT Camps coming up in May and June. The will be essentially the same format with a few subtle tweaks:

The events will start at 8:30 AM and end at 4 PM (versus 8 AM – 12 PM)
We will have a Hands-On component as part of the afternoon agenda
You get to help pick the content / topic of discussion for a good portion of the presentation slots (and maybe even get to present yourself if you want)
We will only have two “official” presentations – one from Microsoft and one from Vision (Double-Take)

To participate in the afternoon session, you will need to bring your own computer (laptop preferred) with the following minimum configuration:

•x64 compatible processor with Intel VT or AMD-V technology
•OS that is either Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows Server “8” Beta
    •4GB RAM (8 GB preferred)
•At least 40GB of free disk space (75 GB preferred)

•It is also important that the machine you use for the hands on sessions does *NOT* have any encryption enabled (this applies to Bitlocker as well as ANY 3rd party encryption)

Just like the last round, we really want you to dive the open discussion we have at the IT Camps. To effectively do this, we need you to submit your suggestion for topics now. You can either email them directly to me or feel free to add a comment to this post. I look forward to your topic suggestions!

Windows Networking User Group (WNUG) Meeting tonight!

    Session Details
Our guest speaker will be Greg Lindsay. Greg is a technical writer for the Windows Server Networking documentation team at Microsoft. The topic of his presentation is "IP Address Management (IPAM) in Windows Server 2012." IPAM in Windows Server 2012 Beta is a new built-in framework for discovering, monitoring, auditing, and managing the IP address space used on a corporate network. IPAM provides for administration and monitoring of servers running Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) and Domain Name Service (DNS). IPAM includes:

    · DNS and DHCP server, zone, and scope discovery

    · Custom IP address display, reporting, and management

    · Audit of server configuration changes

    · IP address tracking

    · Monitoring and management of DHCP and DNS services

IPAM provides a single management platform for IP address administration on the network, replacing manual tools and scripts. IPAM also allows for optimized utilization and capacity planning, enables tracking and forecasting of IP address utilization, and provides reporting for forensics and change management.

    Greg's bio is available here.
