Exchange Load Generator 2010 Beta (32 bit)

Brief Description

Exchange Load Generator is a simulation tool to measure the impact of MAPI, OWA, ActiveSync, IMAP, POP and SMTP clients on Exchange servers.

Overview

Use Microsoft Exchange Load Generator 2010 Beta (LoadGen) as a simulation tool to measure the impact of MAPI, OWA, ActiveSync, IMAP, POP and SMTP clients on Exchange 2010 servers. LoadGen allows you to test how a server running Exchange 2010 responds to e-mail loads. To simulate the delivery of these messaging requests, you run LoadGen tests on client computers. These tests send multiple messaging requests to the Exchange 2010 server, thereby causing a mail load. LoadGen is a useful tool for administrators who are sizing servers and validating a deployment plan. Specifically, LoadGen helps you determine if each of your servers can handle the load to which they are intended to carry. Another use for LoadGen is to help validate the overall solution.
This version is intended for Microsoft Exchange 2010 Servers only. Future versions will provide compatibility with Microsoft Exchange 2007.
Important! LoadGen should be used only in laboratories that have no connection to the production environment. This tool should not be used in any way in a production environment or an environment that is mission critical or contains important information of any kind anywhere in the network.
Note: The XML configuration file schema in this release has changed from previous versions. You will need to create a new XML configuration file with the Load Generator UI. The existing topology will be marked as un-editable if there are users created by previous versions of Microsoft Exchange Load Generator. Add your remote client machines again, and then save the updated configuration XML.

Microsoft Exchange Server Jetstress 2010 Beta (64 bit)

Brief Description

Simulate disk I/O load on a test server running Exchange to verify the performance and stability of your disk subsystem before putting your server into a production environment.

Overview

Use Jetstress 2010 Beta to verify the performance and stability of a disk subsystem prior to putting an Exchange 2010 server into production. Jetstress helps verify disk performance by simulating Exchange disk Input/Output (I/O) load. Specifically, Jetstress simulates the Exchange database and log file loads produced by a specific number of users. You use Performance Monitor, Event Viewer, and ESEUTIL in conjunction with Jetstress to verify that your disk subsystem meets or exceeds the performance criteria you establish. After a successful completion of the Jetstress Disk Performance and Stress Tests in a non-production environment, you will have ensured that your Exchange 2010 disk subsystem is adequately sized (in terms of performance criteria you establish) for the user count and user profiles you have established. It is highly recommended that the Jetstress user read through the tool documentation before using the tool.
This version is intended for Microsoft Exchange 2010 servers. The I/O profile is still subject to change until official release of Microsoft Exchange 2010 Server. Future versions will provide compatibility with Microsoft Exchange 2007.

ADO.NET Data Services v1.5 CTP2

Brief Description

This CTP is an early preview of the v1.5 features for ADO.NET Data Services. This CTP targets the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and extends the functionality we provided in v1.0 of ADO.NET Data Services by providing additional features.

Overview

This CTP is a preview of the set of features we are considering shipping with the next version of ADO.NET Data Services. This CTP targets the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and extends the functionality we provided in v1.0 of ADO.NET Data Services by providing additional features. This CTP builds on and makes updates to the functionality provided in ADO.NET Data Services v1.5 CTP1.
As this is a CTP release, we recommend that you do not install this release on your primary development computer. Also, be aware that the features that ultimately ship with the final release of v1.5 may be different than the features included in this CTP.
The features included in this CTP are:
- Row count
- Feed customization (aka "web-friendly feeds")
- Data binding for WPF and Silverlight 3
- Enhanced blob support
- Server-driven paging
- Projection Support (via the $select query option)
- A new "Data Service Provider" interface for custom providers
- Various bug fixes to V1.0 features
Install Notes:
This release is separate from the Project Codename "Astoria Offline", Alpha Preview released on March 5, 2009. Installing this CTP on the same system as the Offline release will cause a conflict and is not supported. We strongly recommend that you do not install them together.
Installing this CTP on the same system as the ADO.NET Data Services CTP1 is not supported. You must uninstall CTP1 before installing CTP2.
It is possible to use this CTP with the Windows 7; however, design time support integrated with Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 SP1 or Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition will not be available on Windows 7. Using DataSvcUtil.exe for client-side code generation will also not be available on Windows 7. If you use the installer named ‘ADONETDataServices_v15_CTP2.exe’ you will receive a warning when you use the setup on a system with Windows 7 installed indicating a file is locked but the setup will not fail and the design-time components will not be installed. A separate installer named ‘ADONETDataServices_v15_CTP2_RuntimeOnly.exe’ is provided that installs only the runtime components and does not present the error message during install.

Geneva Interop Whitepapers

Brief Description

Geneva Interop Information

Overview

Available Here for Download
"Geneva" and Sun OpenSSO
Interoperability between applications in heterogeneous technology environments is essential to successful collaboration between organizations today. Sun and Microsoft are taking interoperability to a new level by utilizing the SAML federation standard in both the Sun OpenSSO Enterprise federation solution and the forthcoming Microsoft “Geneva” Server federation solution.
By standardizing on SAML for federation, Sun and Microsoft enable organizations to deliver collaborative services with ease.
"Geneva" and Novell Access Manager
Despite remarkable gains in IT capabilities and collaboration, organizations continue to struggle with administrative complexity, workforce productivity, and data security. Many organizations support a large number of users—including employees, customers, partners, and suppliers—who seek access to a wide variety of applications and services. This can be particularly challenging in mixed-technology and multiple-domain environments where users are spread across technical and business boundaries.
Microsoft and Novell have come together to solve these challenges and boost cross-organizational collaboration. The two companies are building the interoperability bridges that enable customers to reduce complexity, enhance security, and decrease costs. This paper explains the need for standards-based identity federation, and the current and forthcoming solutions that improve the interoperability of mixed-technology directory environments.
Microsoft and CA
Access management solutions that introduce a middleware “layer of security abstraction” into the communication between applications, user repositories and authentication technologies enable organizations to improve administrative efficiency, better secure data and applications, and improve outreach to business partners and customers. This white paper reviews how solutions from CA (CA SiteMinder, CA Federation Manager) and Microsoft (Active Directory Federation Services (formerly code named “Geneva”)) provide this middleware software layer, while supporting standards-based communication protocols that enable cross-technology access management and identity federation scenarios. Specific interoperability-oriented use cases are discussed in detail.

Security Features in Microsoft Online Services

Brief Description

The Business Productivity Online Suite is a set of subscription-based enterprise software services hosted by Microsoft and sold with partners. The services operate within a complete ecosystem of features and capabilities designed to meet and in many cases to exceed the security and availability goals that you have for your business applications.

Overview

Service security must be proactively designed in to all aspects of the online experience, from the software itself to the supporting infrastructure, from the day-to-day best practices for your own information workers to the buildings housing the data centers. The security architecture for the Business Productivity Online Suite embodies the key principles of the company’s Trustworthy Computing Initiative: security created by design, by default, and by deployment. Developed for global enterprises, Microsoft’s multi-faceted security program applies a common set of security policies to manage risk and mitigate threats to customer data. Microsoft seeks to improve security by working to standardize the way it tests, implements, and monitor policies for all of its customers. In turn, each Business Productivity Online Suite customer benefits from Microsoft’s experience with the security concerns of customers all over the world — and from the practices Microsoft applies to address them.
