• You must install and run the VMMCA on the computer that either currently is or will become your VMM 2008 server.

The VMMCA is a diagnostic tool you can use to evaluate important configuration settings for computers that either are serving or might serve VMM roles or other VMM functions. The VMMCA scans the hardware and software configurations of the computers you specify, evaluates them against a set of predefined rules, and then provides you with error messages and warnings for any configurations that are not optimal for the VMM role or other VMM function that you have specified for the computer.
Note The VMMCA does not duplicate or replace the prerequisite checks performed during the setup of VMM 2008 components.
Before installing VMM, you can use the VMMCA to help you evaluate the configuration of computers that you might use for the following VMM roles:
• VMM server
• VMM Administrator Console
• VMM Self-Service Portal
After installing VMM, you can use the VMMCA to evaluate the configurations of computers that you are now using or might use for the VMM roles listed above, as well as computers that you are using or might use for any of the following VMM functions:

STRACE is a socket/SSL tracer that is based on the "detours" utility. The tool has been specifically designed to generate LOG for Internet Explorer but it can be used with many other applications.

Brief Description

April 2009 Community Technical Preview (CTP)
This download provides strongly typed part and content classes for use with Open XML documents. The April 2009 CTP release adds support for the validation of Open XML documents.

Overview

Open XML is an open ECMA 376 standard and is also approved as the ISO/IEC 29500 standard that defines a set of XML schemas for representing spreadsheets, charts, presentations, and word processing documents. Microsoft Office Word 2007, Excel 2007, and PowerPoint 2007 all use Open XML as the default file format.
The Open XML file formats are useful for developers because they use an open standard and are based on well-known technologies: ZIP and XML.
The Open XML Format SDK 2.0 is built on top of the System.IO.Packaging API and provides strongly typed part classes to manipulate Open XML documents. The SDK also uses the .NET Framework Language-Integrated Query (LINQ) technology to provide strongly typed object access to the XML content inside the parts of Open XML documents.
The April 2009 Open XML Format SDK 2.0 CTP release adds support for the validation of Open XML documents.

Overview

Microsoft project code named "Velocity" provides a highly scalable in-memory application cache for all kinds of data. By using cache, you can significantly improve application performance by avoiding unnecessary calls to the data source. Distributed cache enables your application to match increasing demand with increasing throughput by using a cache cluster that automatically manages the complexities of load balancing. When you use "Velocity," you can retrieve data by using keys or other identifiers, named "tags." "Velocity" supports optimistic and pessimistic concurrency models, high availability, and a variety of cache configurations. “Velocity” includes an ASP.NET session provider object that enables you to store ASP.NET session objects in the distributed cache without having to write to databases, which increases the performance and scalability of ASP.NET applications.
For community technology preview 3 (CTP3), Microsoft project code named "Velocity" offers several enhancements and a new API. The enhancements include a cache notifications feature, performance improvements, security enhancements, and new cluster management options. There are also updates to the installation program. Perhaps the most material change for the "Velocity" administrator is that your options for editing the cluster configuration settings have been decoupled from your options for storing the cluster configuration settings. Overview

Windows Internet Explorer 8 is Microsoft’s latest web browser. Unlike previous versions, Internet Explorer 8 renders content in the most standards-compliant way possible. This means that web pages will be displayed in Internet Explorer 8’s standards mode by default. Through product feedback channels, our users have indicated that, during the beta period, some websites may not have been compatible with Internet Explorer 8 in its default, standards-based mode. As a result, these domains have been added to a list of sites that, for the short-term, are most likely to be displayed better in Compatibility View. All Internet Explorer 8 users are given the choice to use this list, and the subset that chooses to do so will see each listed domain automatically displayed in Compatibility View, without additional user interaction or notice. The sites on this list have high traffic volume (in their regions), and having a compatible website ensures a significant number of Internet Explorer 8 users will have a great experience. This list will be periodically updated and automatically downloaded to Internet Explorer 8 users who have opted-in to use Compatibility View updates from Microsoft.
