This is an Information Week report for business managers and IT managers aligning both business and technology objectives. Download the following document “Setting up Priorities for the Next-Generation Web Apps” for a closer look at the benefits and challenges involved in selecting the right rich Internet application (RIA) platform to fit your organization, from both perspectives.
Priorities for Next Generation Web Applications Through the use of new development environments, combined with web services and an emerging set of collaboration technologies, web applications are matching and threatening to exceed the capabilities of their shrink-wrapped forbearers. In this report, Information Analytics will assess both technical and business decision-makers interest in, and concerns about next generation web applications in three areas: advancements in user interface, integration of business intelligence and event processing with collaboration tools, and finally the interest in hosting some application functions in the cloud. We’ll most closely examine the ability for next generation web applications to kick off complex tasks such as bringing appropriate teams together to make critical decisions, and alerting stake holders of key developments. Are technology and business decision makers ready for these capabilities? We’ll find out. This tool checks your computer for infection by specific, prevalent malicious software (including Blaster, Sasser, and Mydoom) and helps to remove the infection if it is found. Microsoft will release an updated version of this tool on the second Tuesday of each month.
The Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool checks Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows 2000, and Windows Server 2003 computers for and helps remove infections by specific, prevalent malicious software—including Blaster, Sasser, and Mydoom. When the detection and removal process is complete, the tool displays a report describing the outcome, including which, if any, malicious software was detected and removed. The tool creates a log file named mrt.log in the %WINDIR%\debug folder. Note that x64 version of this tool will only run on Vista x64, Windows XP x64 and Windows 2003 x64 computers. This tool is not a replacement for an anti-virus product. To help protect your computer, you should use an anti-virus product. Microsoft will release an updated version of this tool on the second Tuesday of each month. New versions will be made available through this web page, Windows Update, and the Malicious Software Removal Tool Web site on Microsoft.com. To have the newest versions automatically delivered and installed as soon as they are released, set the Automatic Updates feature to Automatic. The version of this tool delivered by Windows Update runs on your computer once a month, in the background. If an infection is found, the tool will display a status report the next time you start your computer. If you would like to run this tool more than once a month, run the version that is available from this Web page or use the version on the Malicious Software Removal Tool Web site. Please review KB890830 for the list of malicious software that the current version of the tool is capable of removing as well as usage instructions. Also, please be aware that this tool reports anonymous information back to Microsoft in the event that an infection is found or an error is encountered. The above KB article contains information on how to disable this functionality and what specific information is sent to Microsoft. It is strongly recommended that you review KB891716 before you consider deploying this tool in an enterprise environment. The user must be an administrator to run this tool. This tool will not run on any version of Windows 98, Windows ME, or Windows NT 4.0. Note that this download is now a multi-lingual tool. This is Information Week report for business managers and IT managers aligning business objectives with technology. Download the following document “Virtualization: Facing IT and Business Realities” for a closer look at the benefits and challenges involved in taking advantage of virtualization, from both perspectives.
Virtualization is the sort of game-changing technology that comes around once in decade, but so far its primary use has been to consolidate non-critical applications running on under-utilized servers. While technical decision makers manage the infrastructure on which applications run, it’s the line of business managers and corporate executives who must sign off on the bill. While IT executive may be excited about the prospects of running critical applications in a virtualized environment, business leaders may have a different percept on this new technology. In this report, we’ll compare and contrast the perception of business decision makers and technical decision makers on running production applications in a virtualized environment. While our poll will touch on such issues as security and privacy, we will emphasize both IT’s perceived and actual ability to assure performance, stability and availability and provide SLA metrics back to business technology partners.
