System Center Mobile Device Manager (MDM) 2008 Service Pack 1 (SP1) Client Tools provides tools to help administrators troubleshoot connections and monitor device synchronization for Windows Mobile devices as part of an MDM system.
MDM Client Tools provides tools to help administrators troubleshoot connections and monitor device synchronization for Windows Mobile devices as part of an MDM system. The following are tools included in this download:
• MDM Connect Now Tool • MDM VPN Diagnostics Tool • MDM Managed Device Status Viewer
MDM Connect Now Tool enables users of Windows Mobile 6.1 managed devices to download new software updates queued since the managed device last synchronized with the MDM system. The tool initiates a session between MDM Device Management Server and a managed device. Once the tool establishes a connection, new software updates are downloaded to the managed device. MDM VPN Diagnostics Tool helps users diagnose VPN issues between the MDM and the devices it manages. The tool allows users to see the VPN configuration and status on the managed Windows Mobile device and to diagnose any VPN-related problems. The tool also allows the managed device user to collect device logs and send them to a diagnostics team for further analysis. MDM Managed Device Status Viewer is a troubleshooting tool that enables managed device users to browse through values of Open Mobile Alliance Device Management (OMA DM) management objects, device synchronization information, and a list of all managed programs installed on the managed device. To learn about additional MDM tools, see System Center Mobile Device Manager Resource Kit Tools. MDM Client Tools Release History 4/1/2008 – Initial release, Version 1.0 5/1/2008 – Minor release, Version 1.01 5/14/2008 – Updated, Version 1.1 12/15/2008 – Updated, Version 2.0

Best Practices Analyzer Tool for System Center Mobile Device Manager (MDM) 2008 Service Pack 1 (SP1) helps you analyze a group of servers to determine if the prerequisites and best practices are met for MDM deployment.
Best Practices Analyzer (BPA) Tool for MDM 2008 SP1 helps you to analyze the prerequisites for MDM setup and deployment. Because each MDM server component has different prerequisites, the tool helps you to plan and build a successful deployment environment by assessing each server's readiness for MDM before you run MDM Setup. In addition to analyzing each server's individual readiness, BPA Tool helps you to verify the firewall configuration that MDM requires between servers running MDM Device Management Server and servers running MDM Gateway Server. Finally, after you deploy MDM, you can run a post-deployment scan to help make sure your installation works properly and follows MDM best practices. To learn about additional MDM tools, see System Center Mobile Device Manager Resource Kit Tools. MDM 2008 SP1 Best Practices Analyzer Tool Release History 4/1/2008 – Initial release, Version 1.0 5/14/2008 – Updated, Version 1.1 12/15/2008 - Updated, Version 2.0

System Center Mobile Device Manager (MDM) 2008 Service Pack 1 (SP1) Server Tools provides tools to help administrators manage deployment and cleanup tasks in an MDM system.
MDM Server Tools includes a set of tools to help administrators configure, deploy, and manage System Center Mobile Device Manager (MDM) 2008 and its components. The following are tools included in this download:
• MDM Certificate Tool • MDM Bulk Pre-Enrollment Tool • MDM Cleanup Tool • MDM Device Enrollment Cleanup Tool • MDM Application Hash Code Tool • MDM Device Records Synchronization Tool • MDM Additional Group Policies • MDM Group Policy Models • MDM Blocked Device Cleanup Tool • MDM Security Configuration Wizard Templates • MDM Active Directory Upgrade Helper • MDM Set-MDMInstance Cmdlet • MDM Gateway Bootstrapping Tool • MDM Active Directory Configuration Tool (ADConfig) for MDM 2008
MDM Certificate Tool helps administrators to request certificates for MDM components. Administrators can also set access control lists (ACLs) on certificates, place requested certificates in a specific folder, and invalidate Global Certification Manager (GCM) certificates. MDM Bulk Pre-Enrollment Tool enables administrators to pre-enroll groups of Windows Mobile 6.1 devices into MDM. Bulk pre-enrollment can be simpler and more efficient than pre-enrolling a large number of devices individually. MDM Cleanup Tool enables administrators to completely uninstall MDM from servers when other removal options have not fully removed MDM components and settings. MDM Device Enrollment Cleanup Tool is a PowerShell script–based tool that helps administrators remove from Active Directory and the MDM databases devices that are older or are no longer needed. MDM Applications Hash Code Tool allows administrators to create an XML file for use with a Group Policy object (GPO) to allow or help prevent an application from running on managed devices. MDM Device Records Synchronization Tool synchronizes device records maintained in the MDM AdminServices database with managed device information in Active Directory. MDM Additional Group Policies includes ADM templates for the following Group Policy settings:
• Synchronize Sent Items folder during Exchange Active Sync • Do not automatically run auto-run applications when a storage card is inserted • Wireless WAN (WWAN) connection profile used for Mobile VPN • Allow failover to the default WWAN connection configured for Mobile VPN
MDM Group Policy Models provides Group Policy settings configured to appropriately set up managed devices for three common roles. The models provided are the following: single purpose model, restricted connection model, and minimum recommended model. MDM Blocked Device Cleanup Tool removes wiped managed devices from the list of blocked managed devices maintained by MDM Gateway Server. MDM Security Configuration Wizard Templates includes three SCW templates that you can apply to MDM servers to help enhance security by disabling functionality that is not required for the servers. MDM Active Directory Upgrade Helper helps you detect the Active Directory directory service objects and templates, and also generates a report with details and actions that you can perform to assist you in upgrading MDM. MDM Set-MDMInstance Cmdlet helps administrators configure several settings - such as database server name, enrollment server name, and port number for MDM servers - that are maintained as an Active Directory service connection point (SCP). MDM Gateway Bootstrapping Tool automates the steps to deploy required certificates and certificate chain on the server where you plan to install MDM Gateway Server. MDM Active Directory Configuration Tool (ADConfig) for MDM 2008 is a tool that you use to configure Active Directory for MDM 2008. MDM 2008 Service Pack 1 (SP1) includes an updated version that is not backwards compatible with MDM 2008. This article explains how to deploy the DNS Server role in a network containing a single Active Directory domain controller.
This guide helps you implement Domain Name System (DNS) on the Windows Server 2008 operating system in a small network. Windows Server 2008 uses DNS to translate computer names to network addresses. An Active Directory domain controller can act as a DNS server that registers the names and addresses of computers in the domain and then provides the network address of a member computer when the domain controller receives a query with the name of the computer. This guide explains how to set up DNS on a simple network that consists of a single domain.

This step-by-step guide illustrates how to deploy Active Directory® Group Policy objects (GPOs) to configure Windows Firewall with Advanced Security in Windows Vista® and Windows Server® 2008. Although you can configure a single server locally by using Group Policy Management tools directly on the server, that method is not consistent or efficient when you have many computers to configure. When you have multiple computers to manage, create and edit GPOs, and then apply those GPOs to the computers in your organization.

Step-by-step procedures for installing and configuring Terminal Services Gateway (TS Gateway)
Terminal Services Gateway (TS Gateway) is a new role service available to users of Windows Server 2008. TS Gateway enables authorized remote users to connect to resources on an internal corporate or private network, from any Internet-connected device that can run the Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) client. The network resources can be terminal servers running RemoteApp™ programs, terminal servers, or computers with Remote Desktop enabled. TS Gateway encapsulates Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) within RPC, within HTTP over a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) connection. In this way, TS Gateway establishes a secure, encrypted remote connection between remote users on the Internet and the internal network resources on which their productivity applications run.

CAT.NET is a binary code analysis tool that helps identify common variants of certain prevailing vulnerabilities that can give rise to common attack vectors such as Cross-Site Scripting (XSS), SQL Injection and XPath Injection.
CAT.NET is command line tool that helps you identify security flaws within a managed code (C#, Visual Basic .NET, J#) application you are developing. It does so by scanning the binary and/or assembly of the application, and tracing the data flow among its statements, methods, and assemblies. This includes indirect data types such as property assignments and instance tainting operations. The engine works by reading the target assembly and all reference assemblies used in the application -- module-by-module -- and then analyzing all of the methods contained within each. It finally displays the issues its finds in a list that you can use to jump directly to the places in your application's source code where those issues were found. The following rules are currently support by this version of the tool. - Cross Site Scripting - SQL Injection - Process Command Injection - File Canonicalization - Exception Information - LDAP Injection - XPATH Injection - Redirection to User Controlled Site

Starting with Exchange 2007, neither the Messaging API (MAPI) client libraries nor CDO 1.2.1 are provided as a part of the base product installation. As a result, there is functionality missing that many applications depend on. Microsoft Exchange MAPI and CDO 1.2.1 provide access to these APIs
The Messaging API is a COM-like API that provides access to the contents of messaging stores. CDO 1.2.1 (Collaboration Data Objects, version 1.2.1) is a package providing access to Outlook-compatible objects through a COM-based API. Using either CDO or MAPI, a program can connect to a MAPI store, and then perform operations against that store. Starting with Exchange 2007, Microsoft will distribute the MAPI client libraries and CDO 1.2.1 as a Web download.

Prepare images for use with the Deep Zoom feature in Silverlight 2
We are pleased to present a technology preview of Deep Zoom Composer, a tool to allow the preparation of images for use with the Deep Zoom feature currently being previewed in Silverlight 2. The new Deep Zoom technology in Silverlight allows users to see images on the Web like they never have before. The smooth in-place zooming and panning that Deep Zoom allows is a true advancement and raises the bar on what image viewing should be. High resolution images need to be prepared for use with Deep Zoom and this tool allows the user to create Deep Zoom composition files that control the zooming experience and then export all the necessary files for deployment with Silverlight 2.

AntiXSS 3.0 helps you to protect your current applications from cross-site scripting attacks, at the same time helping you to protect your legacy application with its Security Runtime Engine
The Microsoft Anti-Cross Site Scripting Library V3.0 (Anti-XSS V3.0) is an encoding library designed to help developers protect their ASP.NET web-based applications from XSS attacks. It differs from most encoding libraries in that it uses the white-listing technique -- sometimes referred to as the principle of inclusions -- to provide protection against XSS attacks. This approach works by first defining a valid or allowable set of characters, and encodes anything outside this set (invalid characters or potential attacks). The white-listing approach provides several advantages over other encoding schemes. New features in this version of the Microsoft Anti-Cross Site Scripting Library include: - An expanded white list that supports more languages - Performance improvements - Performance data sheets (in the online help) - Support for Shift_JIS encoding for mobile browsers - A sample application - Security Runtime Engine (SRE) HTTP module

Describes how to configure Microsoft® Windows® 2000 IPSec and Windows XP IPSec to help secure an internal network server against network-based attacks from untrusted computers. IPSec enhancements in Windows 2000 service packs and in the Microsoft® Windows Server™ 2003 family are also described.
This paper describes how to configure Microsoft® Windows® 2000 IPSec and Windows XP IPSec to help secure an internal corporate network server against network-based attacks from untrusted computers. You can significantly enhance the ability of a server to defend against such attacks by requiring IPSec-authenticated, signed, and encrypted communication between computers. This paper describes the security threats to, and the benefits of using IPSec on, an internal corporate network server and uses a scenario to describe the process of IPSec policy design for an internal corporate network. Although the focus of this paper is Windows 2000 and Windows XP IPSec, it also provides information about IPSec functionality enhancements in Windows 2000 service packs and in the Microsoft® Windows Server™ 2003 family. Microsoft Corporation and Foundstone Strategic Strategy coauthored this paper. The Windows product development team and the Microsoft IT security group customized the IPSec policy design described in this paper for use on an operational basis, during the development of Windows 2000, and they continue to use these policies today. Foundstone evaluated the security that the IPSec policies provide against a sophisticated, untrusted attacker, in laboratory environments.

SBS Pros had to find a cost-effective enterprise-class messaging and collaboration solution to help its clients overcome their infrastructure and maintenance challenges.
SBS Pros is a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner based in Torrance, California that provides IT services to organizations across the United States—from the federal government to small and mid-sized businesses. Although SBP Pros offers a comprehensive portfolio of IT services, particularly in the area of security, it often found that it was spending more time helping clients administer and maintain core infrastructure than helping them overcome business challenges. With the introduction of Microsoft® Online Services, SBS Pros can help its clients migrate their cumbersome in-house infrastructures to a cost-effective enterprise-class online service. This saves its clients money, strengthens its role as trusted advisor, and positions SBS Pros to more effectively help clients refocus on more strategic projects—which contribute more fully to SBS Pros’ bottom line.

The Microsoft Report a Webpage Problem Internet Explorer Add-on allows the user to submit a report to Microsoft for webpages they believe are having rendering problems, scripting errors, or various other types of problems.
The Report a Webpage Problem Internet Explorer Add-on appears as a toolbar button and a “Report a Webpage Problem...” item on the Tools menu. When the toolbar button is clicked or the menu item is chosen, the control takes a screenshot of the web page currently being viewed. A new tab is then opened containing a report submission form. A scaled down version of the screenshot will be visible at the bottom, and the user has a choice of whether or not to include the full-sized screenshot (choosing No to the “Include Screenshot?” question means no screenshot will be sent). On the report submission page, the user also has the option to select a category best representing their observed problem. This category selection will be part of the report information returned to Microsoft. A 1000 character limit comment field is provided, if the user chooses to include some description of the problem. Additional data included in the report:
Please visit the Internet Explorer Newsgroup to enter bug reports, comments, and suggestions.

The Microsoft SQL Server Management Pack for Operations Manager 2007 provides discovery and monitoring of SQL Server 2000, 2005 and 2008.
The SQL Server Management Pack provides the capabilities for Operations Manager 2007 to discover SQL Server 2000, 2005 and 2008 installations and components and to monitor them, primarily from the perspective of availability and performance. The availability and performance monitoring is done using a combination of scripts and native Operations Manager capabilities. Note: Scripts in the SQL Server 2008 management pack rely on SQL Data Management Objects (SQL-DMO) to query information from the SQL Server. SQL-DMO is now deprecated and is not shipped as a part of SQL Server 2008. Every system with SQL Server 2008 that will be monitored must have SQL-DMO installed from the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Backward Compatibility Components. For instructions on how to download and install the SQL Server 2005 Backward Compatibility Components refer to the management pack guide. Feature Bullet Summary: The following list gives an overview of the features of the SQL Server management pack. Refer to the SQL Server management pack guide for more detail.

Component Checker utility has been upgraded to provide broader support on Windows Platform. The upgraded tool now is able to generate snapshots for MDAC on all supported Service Packs of Windows XP and Windows Server 2003.
The Component Checker tool is designed to help you determine installed version information and diagnose installation issues with the Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC). MDAC is installed with numerous Microsoft products and can also be redistributed using the redistribution program (mdac_typ.exe) that you can download from the MSDN Data Access and Storage Developer Center. Windows XP SP2 or later versions of Windows also installs MDAC as an ‘out of box’ system component of the Windows operating system. Since MDAC in Windows XP SP2 or later is newer than the version (MDAC 2.8 SP1) in the last MDAC redistribution program, mdac_typ.exe no longer installs MDAC on Windows XP SP2 and later version. For more information about MDAC history and supportability please visit Data Access Technologies Road Map Component Checker performs the following tasks:
This version of Component Checker utility has been upgraded to provide broader support on the Windows Platform. New features that have been added to the tool include ability to generate snapshots for MDAC on recently released Service Packs of Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 (e.g.Windows XP SP3 and Windows Server 2003 SP2) and support for 64-bit Windows OS. The upgraded version of Component Checker checks for the following versions of MDAC:

The Offline Virtual Machine Servicing Tool combines the Windows Workflow programming model with the Windows PowerShell™ interface to bring groups of virtual machines online just long enough for them to receive updates from either System Center Configuration Manager 2007 or Windows Server Update Services. As soon as the virtual machines are up-to-date, the tool returns them to the offline state in the Virtual Machine Manager library. This Solution Accelerator includes the following components:

This article shows how BizTalk Adapter Pack provides rapid application development out of the box to custom .NET applications spanning connectivity to various systems and databases.
The design of Microsoft BizTalk Server provides integrated adapters to different data sources. While this was great in the beginning of the Enterprise System Bus (ESB) world, this has changed. Typically there are customers for whom it is not feasible to run a full-blown middleware component to connect heterogeneous systems, and a new approach in design was taken. This article shows how BizTalk Adapter Pack provides rapid application development out of the box to custom .NET applications spanning connectivity to various systems and databases.

This update causes ISA Server to use random source ports for UDP sessions created by access rules which serve hosts in networks for which ISA Server defines a network address translation (NAT) relationship.
This update resolves the issue described in Microsoft Article 956910, DNS queries that are sent across a firewall do not use random source ports after you install security update 953230 (MS08-037). With this update, ISA Server allocates a large set of random UDP ports and then selects a port from this set for use in new UDP sessions. You can disable it programmatically (there is no user interface).

SQL Server 2008 RDL Spec
The goal of Report Definition Language (RDL) is to promote the interoperability of commercial reporting products by defining a common schema that allows interchange of report definitions. An important aspect to understand is that RDL is a schema definition, not a programmatic interface or protocol like HTTP or ODBC. RDL does not specify how report definitions are passed between applications or how reports are processed. Also, RDL is meant to be fully encapsulated; meaning that successfully interpreting an RDL document should not require any understanding of the source application.
