This download fixes issues related to missing or lost properties when importing and exporting Job XML
This update to the Microsoft HPC Pack (KB958512) provides fixes to a couple of issues involving job XML export and import, namely: • The XML sent to Submission Filters is using the v1 schema, a number of properties are missing • When creating of a job based on a non-indented XML file, some properties may be lost during import These issues were fixed in the following way: • XML sent to Job Submission Filters is now using the v2 schema • Job XML import is no longer whitespace sensitive Impact: Users who have written Job Submission Filters that parse job XML may be impacted since the XML output to the submission filter will be different. Such users will need to update the XML-parsing in their Submission Filter code to handle the v2 job XML schema. For users who plan on writing Job Submission Filter, it is strongly recommended that you install this update before implementing your filter.

Richard and Carl talk to Michael Isard about Dryad, a grid computing and clustering project from Microsoft.
Michael Isard received his D.Phil in computer vision from the Oxford University Engineering Science Department in 1998. In 1999 has worked for Microsoft Research in Silicon Valley since 2002. The majority of his early research was in the field of visual tracking and sequential filtering, and he helped to introduce particle filters to the computer vision community with the Condensation algorithm. Current research projects cover a range from inference methods for Bayesian networks with applications in visual tracking and dense stereo estimation; to programming models for large-scale distributed systems and many-core processor architectures. Michael led the Dryad project to build a large-scale distributed execution platform for datacenters that is now widely used internally by Microsoft product groups. He has recently started working with several colleagues on AME, a new concurrent programming model that makes use of transactional memory without explicit atomic blocks. He has also been collaborating with Andrew Zisserman's Visual Geometry Group in Oxford on various aspects of object retrieval from large databases.

Automated Whitebox Test Generation for .NET
Pex explores the behavior of your .NET code and displays interesting input-output pairs to the user from a single mouse click. Pex systematically hunts for bugs – exceptions or assertion failures. You can debug bugs right away or even save all the results as a unit test suite. Pex systematic analysis discovers boundary conditions in code, which leads to a small test suite with high code coverage. Pex enables Parameterized Unit Testing, an extension of traditional unit testing that reduces test maintenance costs. Pex has been used in Microsoft to test core .NET components. Pex is developed at Microsoft Research and integrated into Microsoft Visual Studio Team System 2010.

Carl and Richard talk to Frans Bouma about his thoughts on the ORM revolution, his products, and the Entity Framework. Great stuff!
Frans Bouma started programming in 1986 on a Toshiba MSX-1, at the age of 16. After graduating with a bachelor degree in Computer Science from the 'Hogeschool Enschede' in the Netherlands in 1994, he started working with 4GL systems and post-relational databases, like uniVerse. In 1996 he founded Solutions Design, a company for database driven web-application development. As the lead developer, he developed medium to large enterprise web applications using SqlServer, AS400, COM+, VC++, Visual Basic and Asp. In 2001 Solution Design produced a content management system completely based on Microsoft technologies like SqlServer 2000, COM+, VC++, VB6 and asp. In 2002 Frans developed in C# his first .NET application, the open source LLBLGen code generator for SqlServer stored procedures and .NET classes. Due to the worldwide success of LLBLGen, Frans designed and developed in 2003 for Solutions Design the O/R mapper and code generator LLBLGen Pro, which is currently one of the market-leading data-access solutions for .NET, C# and VB.NET. Frans received for his community efforts the MVP reward for C# in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007 and works full time on LLBLGen Pro enhancements. In 2006, HnD, a full featured support system/forum system for ASP.NET 2.0 was released as open source (GPL), written and designed by Frans Bouma.

This paper provides an in-depth explanation on how to use the BizTalk Server WCF adapters for hosting and consuming Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) services with custom bindings. The paper compiles a series of lessons learned based on a real-world implementation of integrating a custom WCF binding with the WCF adapters. Furthermore, key industrial infrastructure concerns such as transaction management and security are discussed in the context of integrating custom WCF bindings and behaviors with the BizTalk Messaging Engine. Also emphasized are a few pragmatic paradigms such as the use of dynamic ports in consuming WCF services. Finally, some key integration challenges are discussed to streamline the correct use of the adapters for solving complex business problems.

This download contains the Community Promise Specification for UI Automation.
This download contains the Community Promise Specification for UI Automation. Microsoft UI Automation is the new accessibility framework for Microsoft Windows®, available on all operating systems that support Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF). UI Automation provides programmatic access to most user interface (UI) elements on the desktop, enabling assistive technology products such as screen readers to provide information about the UI to end users and to manipulate the UI by means other than standard input. UI Automation also allows automated test scripts to interact with the UI. UI Automation client applications can be written with the assurance that they will work on multiple frameworks. The UI Automation core masks any differences in the frameworks that underlie various pieces of UI. For example, the Content property of a WPF button, the Caption property of a Win32 button, and the ALT property of an HTML image are all mapped to a single property, Name, in the UI Automation view. UI Automation provides full functionality in Windows Vista, Microsoft Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003. UI Automation providers offer some support for Microsoft Active Accessibility client applications, through a built-in bridging service.
