Hi, dear warmhearted colleagues and friends:

On 25th, September 2010, 4 volunteers Stephanie Zhang,  Sherry Xiong, Yingbin Zhao and I attended the opening ceremony of “Tang Fang Village China Tomorrow School”. Click here for more detailed trip report (Chinese version) if you have time.

  • Donation
    • After the 1st milestone “giving” partnering with CTEF to donate 200k RMB to build the new schoolhouse, we have started the 2nd milestone “giving”, of which the “how” is yet to be discussed and determined. Please refer to the “Next Step” section below.
    • Donation source of the 2nd milestone “giving” so far: 9/3 Microsoft Shanghai Zizhu Campus Charity Sale: 12841元, and the 2nd round donation of the following warmhearted friends: Claire Chen 500 RMB,Jessica He 600 RMB, Wu, Jiajie (Intel) 1000 RMB, 14941 RMB in total.
    • Donation usage of the 2nd milestone “giving”: buy, ship and assemble 85 suites of new desk and chairs: 11860 RMB, Ping Pang sports apparatus: 160 RMB, 12020 RMB used in total, 2921 RMB left.
  • School visit
    • On 25th, Sep, 4 volunteers Stephanie Zhang,  Sherry Xiong, Yingbin Zhao and I attended the opening ceremony of “Tang Fang Village China Tomorrow School”, including rising national flag,  guest and student representative speech, cutting ribbon, voluntary teaching, lunch in a peasant family, and visiting He Xing Village Primary School.
    • Through onsite investigation, we found that compared to the last status report, issues like the electricity security, wall painting, window glass, etc. are fxied. The new purchased 85 suites of desk and chair are put into use. The washroom has relatively poor condition. The well is not done yet. We are no judge of construction, so we consulted with mulitple channels for the schoolhouse quality. The government officers and local villagers like the schoolhouse construction quality. Construction Enginerring Quality Security Supervision Station of Yingshan County has done on-site check on 6th, July; and delivered the certificate for this school, concluding that the project quality is good, meeting usage requirement.
    • We took about 30 children clothes from the charity sale, Ping Pang sports apparatus, 3 TechEd schoolbags, 10 boxes of plasticine and some other stationery.
    • We received the detailed project expense, donation receipt and 2 gifts from the school: pennant and a big album of all student photo.
  • Next Step
    • Contact CTEF for the last 50k RMB project expense. Push the well construction to be completed ASAP.
    • Call a project meeting in this October, reporting project in details, brainstorming and discussing project value proposition and future direction, and if/how we should apply the Microsoft ARD Seed Grant Program. You participation is crucial and highly appreciated!
