&lt;p&gt;This would not be a simple task because the check names button is rendered with a server control, so the name of the control changes depending on where in the page control hierarchy it is. You could try adding some CSS to the application.master page in the /layouts folder to set the CSS display attribute to none for the control with id ctl00_PlaceHolderMain_ctl00_ctl01_userPicker_checkNames. This would set the hide, but not disable the icon for each application page on the SharePoint WFE and would need to be set for each WFE in a multi server farm.&lt;/p&gt;
