I ran into John Bristow while in Quebec City delivering the developMental tour while I rolled in for the Build ‘06 tour. In case you didn’t know, TechNet and MSDN groups at Microsoft Canada are part of a larger organisation called Developer and Platform Evangelism.  Believe it or not, we work together reaching both sides of the greater IT Pro community. Among other things, John, Anthony and others were talking about an upcoming tour called realDEVELOPMENT. The dates and content have been released – I asked him to write up a post talking about it.

Things are pretty busy at Microsoft. Here at TechNet Canada, the IT advisors recently wrapped up the Build '06 tour, which featured some great sessions on managing infrastructure with products like Systems Management Server 2003 and Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005. (You can find more information about Build ’06 here) Over on the developer side of the house, we're preparing for realDEVELOPMENT_06. What is realDEVELOPMENT_06, you might ask? It's a 5-city tour by MSDN Canada featuring the Developer Evangelists and various Microsoft Regional Directors.

Now, being an IT wonk, you might be wondering: Why would realDEVELOPMENT_06 matter to me? Well, it turns out that we've got tons of useful content that will help you better understand your infrastructure while providing a glimpse into the future of the Windows platform. During the realDEVELOPMENT_06 tour, we'll take a look at technologies that compromise part of the Web 2.0 vision for the Internet. This includes an examination of ASP.NET "Atlas" - our framework for building applications that leverage asynchronous JavaScript with XML (AJAX) - and Windows Live. We'll also take a deep look at Web security, showing you how hackers compromise sites and how you can protect your organisation from intrusion. Along the way, you'll learn what Microsoft is building to support digital identity through new technologies such as InfoCard in Windows Vista. Finally, we’ll wrap things up with a mash-up session that brings everything together. This tour will rock.

Feeling like attending realDEVELOPMENT_06 now? Well, if the topics aren't enough to convince you to go, maybe our line-up of speakers will. We have some wonderful speakers who will be presenting all this stuff doing the tour. Specifically, we have Microsoft Regional Directors Kate Gregory, Richard Campbell, and Scott Howlett speaking on these and other subjects. Also, we plan to have many Microsoft MVPs at the event, helping to answer many of the questions we expect our attendees to have.
