Founded by Eric Spear, Higher Ed Profiles Inc. (Profiles) is an American startup that has developed a new, efficient reporting solution for colleges and universities. Profiles provides universities with real-time updates on the important factors behind a healthy university: hourly enrollment updates, tuition and fee charges, organization by student and class type, faculty and teaching workloads, etc. The application is capable of storing, managing, and disseminating a university’s operational data so that they are free to study trends and relationships within their school that will help improve day-to-day operations. With Profiles, there’s no need for technical training or licensing purchases – the solution manages the hardware, maintenance, and technical staffing and organizes it into clear, readily available reports.

“We believe that getting core reports like graduation rates, enrollments, and applications should be painless, affordable, and secure, “says Spear, “Profiles connects users directly with their preferred server, extracts the desired data, and presents it via a secure web interface. We try to make everything hassle free for the user.”

A Microsoft BizSpark member, Profiles recently migrated their architecture and hosting from AWS to the Azure platform. Spear decided to make the switch because of Azure’s ability to support open source technologies that Profiles had already made a considerable investment in. The company currently leverages Postgres in an Azure VM, Angular and Bootstrap in an app service, and Azure Redis cache service. “We chose the Azure technology for one reason: capability. We needed to make sure it could do the job and so far, we haven’t been disappointed. The integration was seamless and the results have been great,” says Spear.
