Interview with Alexandru Dacian Stanciu, Co-Founder of StarTech

Tell us who you are and your role in the company.

I am Co-Founder of StarTech. The other Co-Founder is Mihai Bădiţă. For now StarTech is just the two of us, so there are no fancy roles like CEO, CIO and so on. We’re a team and we take care of almost everything…

What did you do before creating your company?

I worked as software developer/architect in a couple of local software companies.

How do you feel being the most promising ‘Startup of the Day’ per Microsoft BizSpark?

Great!

What is your company’s mission?

Our mission is to provide excellent solutions for our clients to reach their mobile customers.

We develop any business to fit all mobile devices in the world.

How did you get the idea for your company?

I wanted to build a social network mobile web site, so I’ve built a mobile web platform. Then I found out about Facebook and I just gave up. So I had the platform and I strongly believed that mobile web will get mainstream.

Tell us about your funding history. Are you currently looking for funding? If so, how much?

We were only bootstrapping. And we’re not looking for funding at the moment.

How many employees do you have? How many developers?

One answer: two.

Are you hiring? If yes, what are you hiring and where?

We’re not hiring because there’s no need for extra workforce yet. But we can get great developers if needed.

Which platform are you building on? Why?

We are building on Microsoft platform (Windows, ASP.NET, SQL Server) because it is best suited for our needs. And also because we have very strong experience with Microsoft technologies, both of us being MCSD for .NET

Where do you see opportunities today in the Software/internet area?

We are exploring the mobile web area. As a matter of fact, StarTech was the first Romanian company that took mobile web seriously. Hence most of the biggest local media publishers are our clients. But there are still lots of opportunities for the grabs, especially in mobile marketing.

What do you think about the BizSpark Program?

It’s an excellent program that encourages entrepreneurial initiatives in Software/Internet areas by providing great technology at virtually no cost, and also very good exposure for the most ambitious startups worldwide.

Do you have any advice for young Software entrepreneurs?

Nope.

Who’s your role model?

I have no role model. I’m just doing it my way.
