A brief Introduction...

Who?

Making maps from raw imagery isn't a trivial undertaking. For Bing Maps, it takes tens of thousands of cores and hundreds of petabytes of storage to turn our aerial and streetside imagery into the beautiful map products you see in your browser, app or mobile device. It also takes a dedicated and experienced operations team to support all that processing power. We have created this blog to share our experiences in running a highly efficient, big data, high performance imagery processing datacenter. We are the Bing Maps Imagery Operations team.

Why?

Over the years we've spent as a team supporting Bing Maps imagery processing, we've encountered and solved many problems in multiple areas that might be interesting to you, so we thought we'd share. Hopefully, by documenting some of the issues & experiences we've seen running a large scale enterprise operation, we can make someone's job a little easier, or at least share some interesting stories!

Stay tuned for our first post!
