SQL and DST - Update

Microsoft has updated the list of products which will be affected from the DST changes (Preparing for DST changes in 2007).

As a result, the new guidance we have about SQL Server is that the product is generally unaffected (because it depends on the OS to retrieve system time), with the exception of SQL Server 2005 Notification Services and SQL Server 2.0 Notification Services.

Both can be updated through a script change, which can be found in the new KB Article (931815) published at this link: https://support.microsoft.com/kb/931815.

How to identify if NS 2000 (also known as NS 2.0) or NS 2005 is installed on a machine:

NS 2.0

You will find it under Add/Remove Programs as "Microsoft SQL Server Notification Services 2.0 SP1".

You can either search for the key:

 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\NotificationServices

Which will allow you retrieve the version and path of the installation.

NS 2005

Unlike NS 2.o, you won't be able to find it under Add/Remove Programs.

You have therefore to search for the key:

 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\90\NS\Setup
