While Windows 8 promises to be a groundbreaking evolution (the developer preview at the BUILD conference has the tech community abuzz), it’s a ways off. Fortunately for many organizations, there is still a great deal of value in migrating to Windows 7.
Many companies still use Windows XP as the primary OS. Windows XP was certainly cutting edge when it first came out, which is now more than a decade ago. In today’s computing environment, however, it often falls short of the demands of modern applications and mobile users.
If you’re using Windows XP as your primary OS, there’s still considerable value—in bottom-line cost savings, user productivity, data integrity and safety, and organizational readiness—in moving to Windows 7. There are a number of ways to help you quickly get into Windows 7, and take advantage of its value, performance and feature set.

The Web Platform Installer v4 (WebPI) command line tool is now available as a separate download! We've added a bunch of new features and fix several issues, and we'd really like you to take it out for a test drive!
For those of you who aren't familiar with WebPI, it's a great little tool for deploying your favorite open-source web applications (from the Web App Gallery) and all the necessary platform components required to get you up and running quickly and seamlessly. Over the years, we've heard a lot of feedback from the community about fully supporting a command line version of the tool - users want to script installs and automate deployment of servers.
Previously WebPI command line was released as a sample tool on Satish's blog (here) but now we are moving it to a fully supported deliverable from the WebPI team. We are shipping it today as a stand-alone download but going forward, we plan to deliver it as part of the full WebPI installation (so you'll get both the UX and command line versions with a single install)
By clicking the Download link below, you agree to the license terms for the Microsoft Web Platform installer. This installer will contact Microsoft over the Internet to retrieve product information.
You can download the WebPICMD.exe directly from the Download center here: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=233753

This whitepaper demonstrates why organizations should choose Microsoft® Hyper-V™ as their hypervisor when designing and implementing a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) solution.
Choosing a hypervisor for deploying a VDI solution involves a number of important considerations, each of which can be fulfilled by using Microsoft's Hyper-V 2008 R2 SP1 hypervisor-based virtualization technology. When implemented together with the Microsoft System Center family of products and desktop virtualization technologies from partners like Citrix, organizations can build integrated VDI solutions that can meet the needs of your business while keeping costs under control.Based on the results obtained from internal testing and because VM density has a significant influence on datacenter cost structures; an integrated Citrix/Microsoft VDI solution that includes Microsoft Hyper-V 2008 R2 SP1 and System Center delivers unique end-to-end business value for organizations planning on implementing VDI.
