Auf der MSDN CodeGallery findet sich ein WIM2VHD command-line tool, mit dem man das Windows Image Format in virtuelle Festplatten umwandeln kann.

Benötigt wird dazu:

  • Ein PC mit einem der folgenden Betriebssystemen:
    • Windows 7
    • Windows Server 2008 R2
    • Windows Server 2008 with Hyper-V RTM enabled (x64 only)
  • Das Windows 7 Beta Automated Installation Kit (AIK) oder Windows OEM Pre-Installation Kit (OPK)
  • Eine Windows 7 oder Windows Server 2008 R2 Installationsquelle bzw. ein anderes Windows Image in einer WIM Datei
