And a small update... my quest for maximal cable and connector coverage while travelling with minimal cables hit a speed bump - who would have thought in this day and age I would have needed a SCART cable, more specifically a SCART to Component + Audio. In this case I'm going to tought it out and use composite instead. It's not the end of the world, and it doesn't look as bad as I was expecting.

I've tried 5 times to install W8D on my W500, and each time it goes into an endless reboot loop. I've updated the bios and ran the "repair" function in W8D, but it doesn't find anything wrong. Very frustrating, since so many people seem to run W8D on their Iconia without any problems. I've gone back to W7 for now, but I really liked what Microsoft was doing for tablets with W8D.

Hi Mark,

Interestingly Skype is one of the only programs that seems to do ok, in the microphone config under sounds however without being 10-15cm from the mic holes im lucky if my voice reads 10%.

Hi Mike,

I have just noticed a problem with the microphone level essentially there inst any sound unless you crank the boost up and talk directly into the mic holes. ive been searching to find a solution but im coming up blank it seems the mic has an unknown driver any suggestions?

I have the latest realtek drivers from the acer site and im running x64

Mike,

I ordered one off e-Bay for $409 with shipping. It was a refurb and looks brand new, but no paper manuals or even a recovery DVD. He still has some left:

Thanks folks for all the helpful info, I installed from a USB stick (had to reset the boot order and use the BIOS F12 setting) and then installed the drivers and apps in the list above. Everything works well. Just wish it would work with a Pen. I have had 4 pen based tablets with active digitizers, but Win 8 needs touch and pen.

Scott, when I was prompted for a missing CD/DVD driver it meant I had a bad download of the ISO. Try again and make sure that the checksum matches with what it says it's supposed to be.

I am sooooooo close to buying a W500 to put Win8 on to do some development. But haven't found it locally yet, only the Android version. :( I should have just ordered it online when I orginally wanted it and I'd already have it. LOL

During setup on my W500, I get prompted for language, and then to start install, it goes to Setup is starting... then there is a long delay and I am prompted for a missing CD/DVD device driver. I am booting off of a USB thumb drive, any ideas?
