This is part 2 of the blog series where we discuss how to migrate Active Directory domain controllers to a virtualized system.

re: How to Virtualize Active Directory Domain Controllers (Part 2)

Here is Jason's response to your question:

“This is true there are many vendors that will not probably supply any drivers for “VISTA”. However, there are still options for us to get through this and it may require some testing with the specific vendor product you have in your Environment. Now, I will start off with what has worked for me in the past and what is recommended.

When we did testing for the BLOG Post the NIC that was used came from 3COM, the old 3C905B!! Now, with this NIC there aren’t too many drivers after XP for this NIC. What we have to choose from?

Replace the NIC with one that is supported in Vista or Win2K8. This is actually the preferred\recommended method of solving this issue. Knowing that sometimes our Servers in the Data Center or Office may not have any available ports for example, I wanted to see exactly what I could get away with.

This of course being in the safe house of my local lab and testing purposes only. I downloaded the latest WinXP Driver for the NIC placed it in the specified directory and turns out that it actually worked! Of course, remember, this was only one 3COM NIC from the many we have available out there to us. PLEASE TEST!!!

Here is also some additional information from our Senior Escalation Engineer who has been focused on SCVMM since its original debut with version 2007. This article explains a little more detail and can hopefully help in making the correct decision that fits the needs of your Environment.

And here is the official TechNET Article again for reference:

But you don't explain, which version of drivers should be incorporated into WinPe.

Have you seen a lot of Vista drivers for server hardwares ?

I asked this question here ( social.technet.microsoft.com/.../9bba218c-523a-4bda-adda-a5425009bff0 ), nobody answered ;-(
