Symptom:
You configured a customized homepage for IE by GPO.While the homepage configured by GPO is applied OK in IE8, the same in IE9 isn't working. However, after you run gpupdate /force, it works.
It happens only when you create a new user profile
Root Cause:
By default branding is kicking in, it will lead to homepage GPO not working.
Solution:
You can disable branding by configuring the following policy: http://gpsearch.azurewebsites.net/Default.aspx?PolicyID=561
Some customers reported that they got error 0x80080005 on their WSUS client. A simple fix is adding the following registry key:
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control
Key = RegistrySizeLimit
Type = DWORD
Value = 4294967295

Customers reported that their CA restore failed. The symptom is:
When migrating the issuing CA using keys which protected by the nCiphers Security World Module Key it works using the existing certificate after first importing the certificate and assignment of private key using certutil -repair.
If private key requires interaction with the desktop, then associated certificate won't appear in the certificates list.
Resolution:
It seems to be a known issue.
There is a workaround:
1) Verify that the certificate is truly functional by running certutil -verifystore my
2) Check in the output that the key is protected by the nCipher Enhanced CSP and passes all tests
3) When you run the wizard, state that you want to use an existing private key (yes this creates a new certificate)
4) After restore, either restore the previous registry from the other CA, or modify the following registry key to use the original certificate's thumbprint:
hklm\system\currentcontrolset\services\certsvc\Configuration\CAName\CACertHash
A few customers reported the following issue:
Environment:
DPM 2010 installed on Windows2008 R2 SP1 with hyper-v enabled.
When the customers go to create a protection group that includes Hyper-V protection, they get an error message (ID: 31313) that you need to install the patch from KB975354. The problem is when installing this hotfix, it said “the update is not applicable to your computer”, then it is stuck and the users are unable to setup the backup for the Hyper-V guest VMs.
But the KB975354 is included in Service Pack 1.
The workaround is to fudge the DB, let DPM believes the windows 2008 R2 hotfix has been applied:
Run the below SQL proc by opening SQL Enterprise Manager 2008 and create a new query. Put the FQDN of the DPM server in the query where specified.

Update tbl_am_installedagent
Set ServerAttributes = 31
Where deleted = 0 and serverid in (select Serverid fromtbl_am_server where serverName = ‘RELACE_FQDN_HERE’)
After running this proc, try creating the PG. Note that this field will be reverted back again by the 30 min refresh job, but should not affect protection for data sources alreadybeing protected.

Recently some customers reported then got event 315 with error 2114 on every system startup. The printers and the system both work fine. The only problem is the event with error when the system starts up each time.
The detailed log is similar as following:

Root cause:
The spooler just uses the Server Service for sharing the printers. If the server service has not fully initialized when the spooler initializes and wants to share the printers, the error will be logged.
Check the server service and make sure there are no dependent services that have been changed from default settings.
In addition, make sure the printer driver is up to date.
I know that Lexmark has used DCOM in the past for monitor software and had issues. If you have a bunch of Lexmark devices, I'd check for DCOM errors (no clue if these are in the System event logs any more) and also verify if the Lexmark devices are using monitor software.
Sometimes you may be unable to upgrade Virtual PC Integration Components with error “Setup Interrupted”.
In most of cases, the Kernel mode driver framework files wdf01000.sys and wdfldr.sys may be the cause of this issue from the following workaround:
1. Unistall Virtual PC Components
2. Remove the device that is unrecogonized from the device manager
3. Rename the following 2 files
C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\wdf01000.sys and
C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\wdfldr.sys
4. Restart the system
5. Install the Integration components
6. When the hardware wizard comes, select to manully to install, enter the path in the first option - C:\Program Files\Virtual PC Integration Components and click next. it should recogonize the unrecogonized device
7. Restart and enable the Integration features
After you install the security update 2507938 on a computer that is running the release version of Windows 7 or the release version of Windows Server 2008 R2, you may notice that Event ID 33 is logged in the event log.

This update replaces C:\Windows\System32\conhost.exe with version 6.1.7600.16385 (14/07/2009) by 6.1.7600.16823 (2/06/2011) which causes the problems.
Work around this by applying one of the two below:
1. Apply KB977648, but please note that this would put the system on the QFE branch for this component, which means the system would be on the Hotfix branch and not the General Release branch.
Sometimes Windows Server Backup failed to backup the data. The error is:
The shared restore point operation failed with error (0x81000101) The creation of a shadow copy has timed out. Try this operation again.
In the event viewer, found the following error:
The backup operation that started at '**** has failed because the Volume Shadow Copy Service operation to create a shadow copy of the volumes being backed up failed with following error code '2155348001'. Please review the event details for a solution, and then rerun the backup operation once the issue is resolved.
Cause:
Windows Server Backup is timing out during shadow copy creation since it is taking more than 10 minutes.
- Run regedit.exe and navigate to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SPP"
- Create a new Registry value of type DWORD with name "CreateTimeout"
- Change value to 12000000(2*10*60*1000 = 20 mins) in decimal

After you install Windows 7 SP1, you may receive the message that the XP Mode needs to be Upgraded ( Upgrading Virtual PC Integration Components) when you open the XP Mode.
Sometimes, the IC upgrade fails and displays "Setup Interrupted".
You can examine the setupact.log and vmguestsetup.log. A common issue is the installation failure is related to wdf01000.sys and wdfldr.sys.
Please try the below steps:
1. Unistall Virtual PC Components.2. Remove the device that is unrecogonized from the device manager3. Rename the following 2 filesC:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\wdf01000.sys andC:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\wdfldr.sys4. Restart the system. Hardware wizard comes up at reboot. Recently we noticed some customers reported that after upgrading to IE9 from IE8, Oiffice communicator can not download the company address book.
Well, you are not observing this issue in Lync Server/Client environment.
Generally, the ABS file is placed under "https" url, e.g. https://servername/abs/int/files/sample_Company_phone_Number_Normalization_rules.txt.
So here are some actions you should take:
1. Make sure the option "Do not save the encrypted pages to disk" is unchecked.
The option is under "Internet Options" -> Advanced -> Security.
2. De-selecting the option "Enable Integrated Windows Authentication".

When you attempt to move mailbox from/to Exchange Online, you receive the error:
The call to 'net.tcp://server name/Microsoft.Exchange.MailboxReplicationService server name' timed out. Error details: This request operation sent to net.tcp:// server name//Microsoft.Exchange.MailboxReplicationService did not receive a reply within the configured timeout (00:01:00). The time allotted to this operation may have been a portion of a longer timeout. This may be because the service is still processing the operation or because the service was unable to send a reply message. Please consider increasing the operation timeout (by casting the channel/proxy to IContextChannel and setting the OperationTimeout property) and ensure that the service is able to connect to the client.
The DataImportTimeout property may be set too low.

When I review the forum threads, I found an interesting issue about offline files and pinned items.
Users may not be able to pin items to their taskbar or Start menu, or pinned items may disappear the next time the user logs in if desktop is redirected to a network file server and offline files are disabled.
But if offline files are enabled and re-login, the pinned items will re-appear on the task bar.
This occurs becuase Explorer needs permission to read from user shell folders when adding items to the taskbar. The SMB read permissions are more restrictive than NTFS read permissions, so Explorer is not able to access the folders and cannot load the pinned items.
To resolve this issue, set the share permissions to Read and Change or Full Control. The folder can be restricted to read only using file system (NTFS) permissions on the file server, but the share permissions must be at least Read and Change.

You cannot send mail in Outlook with BPOS account connected. Mail items stuck in the Outlook Outbox folder. Other symptoms that you may experience:
The issue results from the disconnection between your corporate network and BPOS. It may indicates that there is network communication issues with you internet connection which triggers the connection timeout unexpected.

As a workaround, you may check how it works if increasing the timeout value to 60s (30s by default) with the steps following:

Error 0x80073701 is ERROR_SXS_ASSEMBLY_MISSING, it means there are some system files are missing, which caused the update installation failure.
1. Run the checksur.exe (System Update Readiness Tool) tool. 2. Run System File Checker. From the command line run the command sfc /scannow3. Examine the language packs installed on the system. Uninstall the unnecessary language packs.4. Review the cbs logs and uninstall the patches which were missing assemblies and reboot the server. 5. Reinstall Service Pack 1.
For advanced customer, you can manually examine which files are missing. For example, in the above CBS log, you can see the files for update KB2447568 are missing. To resolve this issue, you can either:
1. Copy the missing files from a good machine.
2. Download and install KB2447568 again.
[Symptoms]
When you log on to the SharePoint online site by using your Office 365 account, navigate to a document library and click “Open with Explorer” button on the ribbon, you receive the following error message: Your client does not support opening this list with Windows Explorer
[Resolution]
To successfully make “Open with Explorer” work, we need ensure the following:
1. WebClient service is started WebClient service which the WebDav protocol enables Windows-based programs such as Windows Explorer to create, access and modify Internet-based files.
Important Note: If you are running a server type Windows OS, for example, you use Window Server 2008, install Desktop Experience feature first to get WebClient service installed.
2. You have supported Web browser
For a list of supported Web browsers and support level information, please visit: Plan browser support From the page you can see it’s recommended to use 32-bit Internet Explorer 7,8,9.
Note: “Open with Explorer” may not work if you have 64-bit Internet Explorer and 64-bit Microsoft Office installed.
3. Add https://*.sharepoint.com to Local intranet site
To configure Web browser, open “Internet Options” menu, navigate to the “Security Tab”, and add https://*.sharepoint.com to Local intranet site.
Then restart the browser and try it again.

Some customers find that if they try to configure two or more Office 365 accounts in one Outlook profile, these accounts cannot all connect to the Exchange Online Server at the same time, even though you have configured them correctly. For example, you have name1@domain.com (default account) and name2@domain.com configured, when name1@domain.com is connected to the server, you cannot get name2@domain.com connected.
This issue may occur intermittently.
To resolve this issue, use the Add-RecipientPermission cmdlet to add SendAs permission to the default account. To do so, use the following steps:

[Issue]
When you try to send emails by using an Office 365 account, the email messages are not delivered. Additionally, you receive the following non-delivery report messages:
Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.
This message could not be sent. Try sending the message again later, or contact your network administrator. Error is [0x80004005-00000000-00000000].
The issue typically occurs if you have sent messages to a large number of recipients during the past 24 hours.
[Cause]
The issue because there is a limit in Office 365 that a mailbox is not allowed sending messages to more than 1500 recipients in one day. You can check out the details by visiting the following page: Message and Recipient Limits
Note: If a message is sent to a distribution group in the Global Address List (GAL), the distribution group is counted as 1 recipient; If a message is sent to a group of in the contacts folder of Outlook, each member of the group is counted as a recipient.
To successfully deliver the email messages, resume sending them later.

When you configure a Microsoft Exchange Online account (Office 365 account) in Outlook client application, you receive a security alert after you enter your account credentials: The security certificate was issued by a company you have not chose to trust. View the certificate to determine whether you want to trust the certifying authority.
Note: The issue typically occurs in an environment where Microsoft Exchange Online coexisting on-premise deployment.
The issue occurs because the network incorrectly redirects external auto-discover calls back to your Client Access Server(CAS) that are deployed on-premise. In a normal configuration, Office 365 domain autodiscover calls will simply hit the internet looking for the Microsoft Online DNS address. Since this call hits your CAS instead, and probably because the certificate that is installed on the CAS is not valid, you receive certificate authority (CA) validation errors.
To resolve this issue, manually configure Outlook client with the following settings:
1. First log on to the Office 365 Outlook Web Access(OWA). Inside of OWA, go to help/about. Make a note of the first part of the "Host Name" entry (For example, SN1PRD0202) which is the server name and well as the first part of the external POP setting (ex. POD51008) which is the proxy name.
2. Log into Outlook and manually configure an Exchange connection with the following settings:
SERVER: the server name attached to .mailbox.outlook.com (ex. SN1PRD0202.mailbox.outlook.com)
CACHED MODE: Checked.
USER NAME: The full O365 email address of the account. Don't click "check name", click "more settings"
Go to the SECURITY tab.
Make sure the first box is checked, and security is set to "negotiate authentication"
Go to the CONNECTION tab.
Check "connect to Microsoft Exchange using HTTP" then click the "Exchange Proxy Settings" button
In the connection settings box, enter the proxy name attached to .outlook.com(ex. POD51008.outlook.com)
In the 2nd box enter msstd: outlook.com
All four checks should be selected
Under "Proxy Authentication Settings" make sure that "Basic Authentication" is checked.
OK all the way back out to the first page (server name and user name) and hit next.
Consider the following scenario:
- You have a Microsoft Exchange Online mailbox user account.
- You have an Android phone that supports Exchange ActiveSync.
- When you add the mailbox account on the phone, you input a Microsoft Exchange Online server name with the https:// prefix in the Server field. For example, you input “https://red001.mail.microsoftonline.com” (without quotes) in the Server field.
In this scenario, you cannot click the “Next” button to proceed with the configuration.
[Solutions]
Remove “https://” prefix. For example, just input “red001.mail.microsoftonline.com” (without quotes) in the server field. Check the “Use secure connection (SSL)” check box and proceed with the configuration.

Recently some customers reported that sometimes downloads seem to hang at “1 sec remaining” and 99% in the new IE9 download manager.
Actually the files seem to be complete as renaming the “.partial” files seems to work.
There are several things that you can try to mitigate this:
1)Open Internet Explorer (IE) in no add-ons mode and check if that fixes the issue.
To start Internet Explorer without add-ons,
a. Click the Start button, and selectAll Programs.
b. Click Accessories, and selectSystem Tools.
c. Click Internet Explorer (No Add-ons).
2) Anti-virus or Anti-Spyware programs are blocking it. Before downloading anything, ensure you trust the website where the download is from and the download is not containing virus. Disable AntiVirus temporarily, and try to download something. If downloading is working now, it means the Anti Virus application is blocking it, you may contact the vendor of A/V for further help.
3) Ensure you have enough free disk space.
4) Ensure you are keeping the tab which launched the download open. For example, it may be triggered when you are going to a site full of videos, right clicking a video and clicking “Save Target As”, then closing the tab before the download can complete, If you keep the tab open, it will complete successfully.

5) Finally, you can rename the “.partial” files which are 99% because actually the files are complete.
Recently, some customers reported that after they ran Windows Update and installed Yi Ruan Bluetooth driver, the bluetooth devices like mouse or keyboard was not working any more.

Open Device Manager by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Security, and then, under System, clicking Device Manager. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
Double-click the category containing your device driver, and then double-click the name of the device that you want to restore to a previous driver version.
Click the Driver tab, and then click Roll Back Driver.
If you are logged on as a standard user, the button will be dimmed, which means it's unavailable. You must be logged on as an administrator to roll back a driver.
