The part each products plays in this process is identified and the current status and future plans for the System Center product suite is described.
This session starts by reviewing recent additions to the System Management Server 2003 product, including Asset Intelligence. The next major release of Systems Management Server, named System Center Configuration Manager 2007, is launching this year and the session continues by reviewing enhancements in this release to core features such as inventory, software distribution, update management and reporting. The session then covers new features such as OS Deployment and Desired Configuration Management before drilling into upgrade and deployment planning guidelines.
This session starts with a technical overview of System Center Operations Manager 2007, including descriptions of the features added in this release such as End to End service monitoring, Audit Collection Services and Agentless Exception Monitoring. This is followed by a drilldown into the technical architecture of the product, including the extensibility options to enable network and heterogeneous management solutions.
Virtualization is an increasingly important component of IT Operations today. This session describes how Microsoft's different Virtualization solutions integrate and provides insights into Microsoft’s overall virtualization strategy. The topic provides details of products such as Microsoft SoftGrid, System Center Virtual Machine Manager and Virtual Server 2005 R2. The session closes by discussing the future virtualization support in Windows Server 2007 and the planned integration between SoftGrid and Configuration Manager 2007.
This session starts by demonstrating how the new Data Protection Manager (DPM) 2007 product protects file systems as well as Exchange, SQL and SharePoint servers. Next the session describes how Capacity Planner 2007 assists with planning new Exchange Server 2007 and Operations Manager 2007 deployments through performance modeling. Finally the session describes how the recently announced Service Manager product will integrate multiple IT management solutions to enable true IT Service Management.

The guide describes each of the four levels, and explains each capability in the Microsoft Core Infrastructure Optimization Model. You can use the information in this guide to help an organization move from the Rationalized level to the Dynamic level.
The document is structured in two parts for a broad audience of IT pros, from IT generalists, who may need to read the document to discover all major product features and best practices, to more sophisticated IT pros, needing only concise attributes per requirement and high-level references to larger bodies of content. It also provides a checklist job aid for planning and scoring progression against requirements of the Core Infrastructure Optimization Model.
Previously released guides focus on moving from the Basic to Standardized level and from the Standardized to Rationalized level.

This morning I received news that shocked me, made me sad, made me think about life. David Boschmans our dearest colleague and friend who was a Developer Evangelist @ Microsoft Belgium passed away last night. I had the opportunity and honor to work with him for almost 19 months now and I always appreciated his honesty and passion about technology and Microsoft in particular. He was a really a smart and honest person and a dream to work with, learn from. You could always ping him to ask for help or advise, he was always available and reachable. In other words he was a great colleague. My thoughts go out to Veerle his wife, Fien his daughter and his family.
We will miss you David. Rest in peace... my friend.
Update: You can write a message to David and his family at http://david.vsdotnet.be. If you have photo's with David, it would be nice if you could add them to the David Boschmans group at Flickr. This group will be a center location with several different memories.
Reading through different blogs I encountered a blogpost about Microsoft Licensing and Server Virtualization. I embedded a Video from Eric Jewett who is a Lead Product Manager at Microsoft. In this video Eric explains in half an hour what the licensing differences are between our three Windows Server products when you install Virtual Server on top of it.
Hopefully you understand everything about this licensing model now. :)
Mike Neil, General Manager
The session features a discussion of the virtualization technology roadmap and an outline of Microsoft's vision for how these technologies will combine with future capabilities in processors, chipsets, and I/O devices to enable unprecedented flexibility by the Windows Server platforms.

Server virtualization solutions allow enterprises to aggregate server workloads within their physical server platform and improve agility of virtual machine migration across physical systems. Platform virtualization solutions create new economy of scale and dynamic configuration challenges for storage area network (SAN) integration. This session details key integration and management dimensions around the core Windows operating system, Virtual Server, future Windows virtualization, and Virtual Machine Manager. The ANSI T11 N-Port ID Virtualization (NPIV) standard extends a powerful complementary capability to associate multiple virtual N_Ports to a single hardware-based N_Port over the same FC switch connection. Through this standard the SAN-managed controls around zones and masks can be coordinated and specific SAN resources mapped to different virtual machine workloads while maintaining SAN best practices. Microsoft will discuss key platform virtualization design criteria and fundamental values for ecosystem compatibility and next steps for standards and extending capabilities. Emulex will join Microsoft to describe their NPIV-based HBA solution that provides administrators improved deployment, migration, and management capabilities.http://www.microsoft.com/emea/itsshowtime/sessionh.aspx?videoid=518

The new and compelling presentation virtualization features in Windows Server Longhorn Terminal Services enable customers to use remote applications and seamlessly integrate them on their users' client desktop and mobile systems. This session discusses how the new PnP Device Redirection Framework enables support of a wide range of hardware devices such as USB storage or printing in a Terminal Services session and how SoftGrid enables Terminal Services to become a truly dynamic system that is easy to manage. Other new features to be discussed include Terminal Services Gateway and Web Access, which allow the customers to provide secured access to their IT services from anywhere while protecting their investment in desktop and mobile systems.

I just signed up for the Windows Live Folders beta. For now I got 500MB of online storage which I can use to files and share it with who I want.
I hope we will increase the 500MB space very soon, so I can upload my stuff and use it as a secondary backup location. The cool thing about Windows Live Folders is that you can assign either everyone on the Internet or some of your live messenger contacts to be contributor to a folder you created. Or you can only share your stuff with who you want. The upload experience is still basic, no multiple files upload and a limit of 50MB per file. Anyway I am going to start using this. If you want to use it http:/folders.live.com and be fast because the team will only accept a limited amount of new beta users.
