Polish MVP website: stunning !!

Although it’s hard for me to understand the content (I can use some online tools anyway :)),

I just wanted to congratulate and thank Mariusz Kędziora and the dedicated Team for the time and efforts to deliver this very nice (very web 2.0 I would say :)) website totally dedicated to the MVP Award Program in Poland !

MVP Banner

It contains lots of information about the MVPs and the online and offline User Groups and communities in Poland: from announcement to events, from a “community” calendar to the local MVP profiles as well as an FAQ and contact information.

Congratulations again for this amazing achievement and thank you for your strong commitment on this !

Spring the Expert “00001001” !

On June 2nd and 3rd In 2-3 June in Skopje (FYRO Macedonia),

Dejan Sarka and Aleksandar Talev organized a very technical workshop, dedicated to SQL Server, called “Spring the Expert 00001001”. The content was mostly related to Data Mining, from the upper theory deep down to the analysis using SQL Server 2008.

SQL Pass MK

Attendees were mostly from the local online and offline communities and User Groups like the SQL PASS MK, the .NET User Group MK and the MEUG MK (Exchange User Group).

Some peculiar comments from the attendees were saying that, based on the great speeches, this was one of the first Level 400+ technical workshop ever happened in the Republic of Macedonia !!

“Dejan Sarka revealed the secrets and techniques used by the experts. Aleksandar Talev,  who is the only Macedonian SQL Server MVP was the event moderator. The event was a great opportunity for all the IT experts to meet in one place and exchange experience and knowledge. Discussion subjects were interactively elaborated, through practical examples, Q&A sessions and exchange of practical experiences…”

You can read more about there event here

Aleksandar is doing a fantastic job “hiring” some of the best professionals in the Balkan area so congrats on a successful event !!

back from NT konferenca 2009

Yes, it was a great event. And yes, it was fun too!

I had the pleasure to be invited (and I need to thank a lot of people for that) to the latest Microsoft NT Konferenca 2009 in Portorož, Slovenia.

NT Konferenca 09

The venue was darn lovely: the Grand Hotel Bernardin. The event, well: with more than 2.200 attendees, it’s THE biggest IT event ever held in Slovenia (out of a population of 2.000.000, that’s pretty astonishing, isn’t it?!)

 IMG_1049 IMG_0875

4 days, 700 Companies present, more than 100 lectures, 20 workshops, 44 Partners and Sponsors. As my friend and colleague Matjaž Šircelj stated: “Just as the hammer tool for the blacksmith, as the pen tool of any writer - so the NT Conference is the tool for each ITPro and Developer”.

Highlighting MVPs Saso Erdeljanov, Matevz Gačnik, Matija Lah, Luka Manojlović, Miha Markič, Miha Pihler, Dejan Sarka, Andrej Tozon and Dusan Zupancic (speakers’ list and covered topics here).

We also had the opportunity, between a BarCamp and a Panel to have dinner altogether in the very nice downtown village.

I really had a great time: conference calls are nice and important, online meetings are even better, but meeting in person really leaves you good memories and the feeling you’ll be doing this again :)

Thank you guys for the warm welcome and really congratulations on what you have achieved with this fantastic event ! (you can see many more pictures in the MVP Official Community Fan Page on Facebook)

Cyprus .NET User Group (CDNUG)

Being an MVP Lead for Central and Eastern Europe and Italy gives me a lot of visibility in terms on what is happening around the Region.

As I’m always in contact with these incredible guys and hearing about lots of great stories happening around in terms of talking about our products and technologies (and seeing them in action, well this is even more exciting!), I thought about a new initiative: every month, talk about a specific User Group, whichever is offline or online, and introduce it to the broader public. Just so you know, these guys are doing this because they love it, because they believe in what they do and because they are motivated by their Passion, which is an extremely powerful driver (I know it very well because it’s part of me too :)).

So this month let me introduce you the Cyprus .NET User Group: CDNUG

CDNUG

The Cyprus .NET User Group (CDNUG) was established in 2005 by, and for, the .NET and SQL Server Community in Cyprus.

Conceived and developed from the ground up by .NET and SQL Server users, CDNUG is committed to the .NET and SQL Server community facilitating its growth and development.

In taking on the responsibility of being an open and independent coordinator for .NET and SQL Server community in Cyprus, CDNUG places a high priority on listening to the needs of its members and responding to them with tangible – and workable – initiatives.

Targets of CDNUG are:

  • Increase awareness of the benefits of switching to .NET framework
  • Increase awareness of the benefits of using and developing SQL Server
  • Raise funds funds through sponsors so that it can stage seminars/workshops
  • Find locations where seminars/meetings will take place
  • Provide a web site where meeting results, photos, links, articles etc will be posted
  • Organize informal gatherings so that members can discuss common problems
  • CDNUG organizes regular monthly events (2-hour community nights) dedicated to .NET and SQL Server.

Currently, CDNUG has 122 registered members. Usually the events organized by the User Group take place at the Microsoft Cyprus Office, providing CDNUG a perfect infrastructure for its local events. From time to time, big events are also organized attracting a large number of developers and IT Pros. Furthermore, CDNUG speakers also participate to local events organized by Microsoft Cyprus.

What is important to know about the Cyprus .NET User Group is that it is open to everyone that shares the passion for .NET technologies and SQL Server, either it’s a beginner or an expert.

The leader of CDNUG is Artemakis Artemiou (Blog: http://aartemiou.blogspot.com), Microsoft MVP on SQL Server, MCP, MCTS (Charter Member) and INETA - Europe Country Lead for Cyprus and I want to thank him for letting me start this useful initiative :)
